The Ulvanni are an ancient people who have existed as long as the stones on the mountain. The oldest contract in the world is etched into one of those stones. It states an agreement between an ulvanni, Salt-like-Sea and the Dwarf Rockbiter. They agree to trade rusted river stone for balls made of pigs’ bladders.

No one knows where the Ulvanni come from. Some believe them to be an offshoot of lycanthropes, a stable mutation amongst an unstable breed. The ulvanni themselves do not keep records, entrusting the past to those who would dwell on it.

Physical Description: While mostly resembling humans, Ulvanni tend toward a rustic beauty. Their hair is left to grow wild and they wear days of road dirt to keep the smell of home about them. Their ears are distinctly wolven, cresting the tops of their heads with a furry down. Behind them falls a bushy tail which aids in their balance and keeps their gait nimble.

Society: Ulvanni live in hidden villages, hunting, trading and living as they have done for thousands of years. Sometimes they depart the forests to find adventure among the other races. Inevitably, they heed the moonlit calls and return to their tribes.

Relations: Ulvanni get along well with dwarves, who find them invaluable as ore sniffers or trackers in the roofless world above. Ulvanni have neutral relationships with most other races. Some, including humans, treat them with suspicion due to suspected links with fae or tricksters. To alleviate this, roaming ulvanni may choose to hide their true natures and pose as humans.

Alignment and Religion: Ulvanni tend towards neutrality. They serve tyrants as well as heroes with a quiet stoicism. In mixed company they will share the rituals of others, joining the worship of the prevailing pantheon. Their own beliefs, if they have any, are not shared with outsiders.

Adventurers: To wander the world is a part of ulvanni culture and they typically leave their villages in early adulthood to spend a few years exploring and trying their hand at different jobs. It is rare to see a gray-haired ulvanni out in the world and some great calamity has likely forestalled their return homet.
